Ekaterina Makhnina won the essay contest sponsored by the New Mexico Rural Electric Cooperative Association. Marinarae Rosales was the runner-up. The contest was held statewide and members of the co-op board judged the Socorro High School contest, according to counselor Heidi Tigner.
